Established in 1980, The Gardener’s Center and Florist is a second-generation, family business based in Darien, CT. As a community mainstay, our business was built on and sustained by excellent personal service and carefully selected plant material. Our knowledgeable teams have been helping local gardeners for decades, and we are grateful to continue this tradition.
Our team embraces responsible and sustainable gardening with an emphasis on creating a living, biodynamic soil structure that helps to naturally ward off pests and diseases, while requiring no artificial supplements. We proudly feature a wide selection of pollinator-friendly and locally-grown native plants that need minimal amendments to thrive in our coastal Connecticut community.
The Gardener’s Center is certified by the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA) for our commitment to organic, sustainable gardening.
Meet Kris
Owner & Cheerleader of Responsible Gardening
Kris spent his entire life in the green industry. It started with growing up at the The Gardener’s Center, then earning his Masters in plant science from UCONN where he went on to work in landscaping and green roofing solutions.
When he stepped into his father’s shoes as the leader of this awesome place, he led with a mission to promote responsible gardening — one that puts nature first. With the help of the entire team, that mission has been put into practice.
Speaking of our crew — they are the best part of Gardener’s. And if you don’t know that yet, you soon will. We’re all about creating an enjoyable place to work and helping our customers. And we look forward to see you!
Meet Sean
Garden Guru & General Manager
I’ve been working in the retail garden center industry for 27 years and have been with The Gardener’s Center since 2006. Although my formal background is in history, I developed a love for horticulture at an early age helping my great grandmother with her extensive perennial gardens. The best part of my job is getting to talk to people about plants every day, whether it be a novice gardener or plant geek like myself. I love hearing people’s success stories and I am always able to help when things don’t go exactly as planned. In my free time I enjoy gardening (obviously!), cooking, reading and keeping up with my 1898 Queen Anne Victorian house!
Meet Joy
Houseplant Guru & Greenhouse Manager
I have been in this industry for over 20 years and cannot imagine doing anything else. I love coming to work and being able to see, touch and smell all the wonders of Mother Nature. And passing along my love of nature to my daughter makes it so much more special.
Meet Lauren
Container & Floral Design Guru
I have always been a nature lover. I started my first garden seven years ago, following a budding interest in herbalism and permaculture. In 2013 I began working in the floral department of a local business where I fell in love with floral design and quickly began taking on special orders for weddings and events. Today, I’m happy dipping my hands in various pots at The Gardener’s Center working in Floral, Nursery, and Landscaping.
