There are some plants that have so many good things going for them they could fall into the “too good to be true” categoryā¦ And Hellebores, (also known as Lenten Rose or Christmas Rose) are at the top of that list!
What we love about Hellebores...
Color made in the shade!
The shade tolerance is fantastic because there arenāt a lot of shade-loving plants that give us these kinds of blooms.
Theyāre critter-resistant!
All parts of all hellebores are toxic which 100% deters animal ābrowsing.ā Deer, rabbits and woodchucks and groundhogs will not be chewing down your Hellebores.
They’re cold-hardy!
The varieties we offer are winter hardy to USDA Zone 5 (thatās -10 to -20 degrees below zero!) and our Hellebores are grown locally right here in Connecticut.
They’re evergreen!
This is definitely not something you can say very often about perennial plants but Hellebore keep their beautiful foliage year round.
They’re long bloomers!
Youāll find the blooms bloominā when most other plants are still dormant, usually late February through late April in our area.
They are easy-peasy!
Once established, Hellebores live for a very long time and require minimal care and maintenance.

Ivory-colored flowers held above thick, leathery, dark green foliage. Grows 10 to 12 inches tall by 18 inches wide.Ā
Helleborus Ice N’ RosesĀ® ‘Picotee’
Outward facing bicolor pink and white flowers held well above lustrous green foliage. Grows 15 to 18 inches tall by 20 to 24 inches wide.Ā
Helleborus Ice N’ RosesĀ® ‘Red’
Features ruby red blooms held atop lustrous, dark green foliage. Grows 15 to 18 inches tall by 24 inches wide.
Helleborus Ice N’ RosesĀ® ‘White’
Large, creamy white flowers with prominent yellow centers that turn greenish as they fade which are held above shiny green foliage. Grows 20 to 24 inches tall and wide.
Helleborus Ice N’ RosesĀ® ‘Barolo’
Features abundant, extra-large, deep garnet red blooms held above dark green foliage. Unlike other varieties, “Barolo’s” flowers are held in an outward facing position making them particularly striking when backlit by the sun. Grows 15 to 18 inches tall by 24 to 30 inches wide.
Helleborus ‘Ivory Prince’
Sports deep burgundy buds which open to beautiful ivory blossoms which take on a chartreuse tone as they age. Attractive dark green foliage with silver veining. Grows 15 to 18 inches tall and 18 to 24 inches wide.Ā

Sports magenta flowers which are held on red stems above attractively marbled foliage. Grows 18 to 24 inches tall and wide.

Boasts medium pink flowers held on plum colored stems above leathery, dark green foliage. Grows 12 to 16 inches tall by 18 to 20 inches wide.
