Pre-Order Now for Spring 2025 Pickup: The Connecticut (Hardy Banana): A Tropical Showstopper That Returns Every Year
Say hello to Musa Basjoo, the Connecticut 'Hardy Banana' that brings bold, tropical vibes to your garden—without needing a passport. This is the first time we’ve ever offered this custom-grown banana plant, and it’s truly something to brag about. With lush, oversized leaves and a towering 8–10' presence, this plant transforms any outdoor space into a summer escape.
Grown for looks, not fruit, this ornamental banana is all about creating a vibe. It dies back in fall like a perennial but returns year after year—no digging, storing, or babying required.
Quantities are very limited, and this is a pre-order only plant. If you want to turn your garden into a tropical hideaway, now’s your chance to lock one in before they’re gone!

Why You’ll Love It:
- Tropical Energy, Local Climate: This is not your typical banana. Musa basjoo can withstand cold temperatures—even below zero with proper mulching. It's a hardy perennial with a tropical look that actually thrives in Connecticut gardens.
- Big Impact, Fast: These plants grow fast—like, feet per season fast—and can reach up to 13 feet over time. Plant a few (we recommend a grove of 5–7) and you’ve got a natural summer privacy screen.
- Container-Friendly or In-Ground: Use it poolside, line a sunny patio, or plant it right in your garden beds.
- Just Add Sun (and Maybe a Shirt Like Sean’s): All it takes is sun, water, and fertilizer. In fact, this banana loves blazing heat. The more summer you give it, the more jungle it becomes.
- Clump-Forming & Non-Invasive: Grows in a restrained, clumping habit—no spreading or taking over. It’s big, but it knows its place.
How to Make It Happy:
- Sun: Full sun is the name of the game.
- Soil: Loves rich, well-draining soil. Keep it happy with compost or fertilizer.
- Water: Keep it well-watered during the growing season—this is a thirsty plant!
- Winter Care: In zones 5–7, mulch heavily in the fall and let it die back naturally. It’ll return in spring like nothing happened.
- Hardiness: Perennial in zones 5–11 with protection.
A Warm Weather Vacation—Right in Your Backyard
We filmed this plant’s debut in the greenhouse on a cold day with Sean rocking a ridiculous tropical shirt... because that’s the mood Musa Basjoo gives. It may still be chilly now, but this plant is your one-way ticket to a lush, tropical summer.
